Acerca del entorno

Este lugar bañado por las aguas del río Tera consta la existencia, desde el año 979, de un monasterio donado posteriormente por los reyes Fernando I y Sancha de León a la diócesis de Astorga. Y, según se interpreta, dirigido por una orden de canónigos. De todo aquello llega a nuestros días la iglesia de una sola nave y a su lado, la casa abacial del siglo XVI, convertida hoy museo y albergue de peregrinos.

Muy cerca del lugar, en Camarzana de Tera, partícipe del entorno histórico de rutas de comunicación romana, se encuentra un antiguo asentamiento vinculado a otros centros productivos de la época, como los alfares de Manganeses de la Polvorosa o Melgar de Tera. Hoy en día es un lugar turístico en la principal época estival del año y centro de servicios de las poblaciones colindantes. ¡Buen viaje!

Iglesia de Santa Marta de Tera

Este templo románico se ha convertido en el lugar favorito de muchos peregrinos y curiosos del fenómeno equinoccial que sucede dos veces al año, tras su redescubrimiento en 1996 por el sacerdote D. Julián Acedo. En el tour vas a escuchar a José Almeida, presidente de la Asociación Zamorana de los Caminos de Santiago, explicando la relevancia del lugar para los peregrinos. También a Celestina Valverde, guía del templo, resaltando la antigüedad de la escultura de Santiago Peregrino más antigua que se conoce y mencionando algunas curiosidades esotéricas que se perciben en el lugar. Francisco Javier Martín, ingeniero agrícola y pescador, apunta las bondades del río Tera para la práctica de la pesca.

Villa Romana de Orpheus

Descubierta por casualidad en las excavaciones de la carretera Madrid – Vigo. Todo empezó por unos fragmentos de mosaico y terminó revelando un gran hallazgo vinculado a antiguos asentamientos romanos encontrados en otros lugares de la zona. En el tour vas a escuchar a Hortensia Larren, arqueóloga territorial de la Junta de Castilla y León, compartiendo algunos detalles sobre lo representativo de cada estancia que se pueden ver en la Villa. También a Francisco José Fernández, profesor, mencionando otros vestigios romanos en la zona, como en Santibañez de Vidriales. Rosario García, directora del Museo de Zamora, señala algunos detalles del Tesoro de Arrabalde, hallado en el Castro de las Labradas.
